A supplier lookup and new authoring are different jobs. Find the right route for your product, assemble the evidence and request a realistic quote.
Start with your role
Are you a business buying an unchanged industrial chemical, or are you the brand creating the finished product? That single distinction changes the correct next step.
You purchased it unchanged
Ask the manufacturer or supplier for the SDS that matches the exact product, concentration, grade and supplier. If the document is missing, follow up before commissioning unrelated authoring.
You manufacture or private-label it
Gather the finished formulation and supporting documents. Check whether the existing supplier information truly covers the finished product. If not, arrange a product-specific hazard assessment and SDS authoring.
Prepare a useful authoring brief
The faster route is not a blank SDS template. It is a complete, reliable evidence package.
- Identify the finished product: trade name, intended use, manufacturer/importer details and packaging.
- List the formulation evidence: composition records and available supplier ingredient SDSs. Protect confidential percentages and formulas.
- Collect physical and chemical data: known state, density, flash point, pH and stability details as applicable.
- State the destination: USA workplace, Amazon FBA, TikTok Shop or customer request; include the exact rejection message when relevant.
- Confirm scope: one product versus multiple variants, new SDS versus review, and any additional testing required.
What a qualified SDS author must work out
A writer cannot establish the finished product’s classification simply by copying a different product’s SDS. The author must review reliable hazard information, classify as applicable and produce a document in the correct 16-section sequence. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200, a manufacturer or importer retains applicable obligations even when a specialist helps prepare the file.
Do you need an SDS, a correction or a transport document?
Use SDS authoring for product hazard communication, an update/review for an existing file with gaps, and transport-specific documentation when a carrier or dangerous-goods program requires it. An SDS by itself is not a transport approval or marketplace acceptance letter.
If your immediate problem is a marketplace request, start with our Amazon FBA guidance or TikTok Shop US guidance.
What does it cost?
Professional Authoring: USD $99–$199 per product, depending on complexity and the completeness of supporting evidence. Confirm whether the work is new authoring, review, testing, translation or a multi-product project before paying. Read the detailed pricing and scope guide.
Frequently asked questions
You can request an assessment, but the author must first identify what reliable product data and ingredient information are missing. A product label alone may not support a defensible finished-product hazard classification.
It may be possible if it precisely represents the finished product and each platform’s current document requirements are satisfied. Marketplace-specific acceptance is not guaranteed.
List each variant and how it differs. A single SDS is possible only when the mixture similarities and hazards justify shared coverage; do not assume all fragrances qualify.
The standard published service estimate is typically 24–48 hours after the necessary information is available. Actual timing depends on complexity and review scope.
Provide it as supporting evidence alongside the percentages and other ingredients in the finished blend. A fragrance oil SDS generally cannot stand in for the completed perfume, room spray or candle mixture.
Yes. The document still needs to address US rules and identify the proper responsible party for applicable workplace products. US importer responsibilities should be checked separately. OSHA import guidance.
Not necessarily; authors may rely on reliable existing mixture and ingredient data where the information is sufficient. Testing can be necessary when a property that affects hazard or transport classification cannot be established reliably.
Send the exact finished-product name, formula and percentages through a secure channel, ingredient supplier SDSs, COAs, relevant physical-property tests, packaging type and expected uses. Also provide any marketplace rejection or customer request.
Evaluate each distinct formula separately. Amazon explicitly asks for an SDS for each chemical product in certain bundles or kits. Amazon kit guidance.
