What the fee covers
Product-specific SDS
Defined 16-section document
Based on the technical information supplied for the finished product and its intended destination.
The standard 24–48-hour turnaround begins after complete product information is received and the authoring scope is confirmed. Additional laboratory testing, translations, regulatory localization or distinct formulations require separately agreed scopes. Marketplace acceptance is decided by the platform.
A perfume SDS should identify the finished formulation: alcohol or oil carrier, fragrance concentrate, other ingredients, concentration basis and available safety data. The fragrance supplier’s SDS is useful evidence, but does not automatically describe the diluted perfume sold by your brand.
Why your perfume needs its own finished-formula assessment
Two bottles may both say “vanilla perfume” while containing very different ethanol levels, fragrance blends and solubilizers. Hazard classification is based on those actual constituents, available product data and relevant OSHA criteria—not a scent description or the supplier’s category name.
The SDS request is also distinct from cosmetic marketing claims. Whether a particular consumer item is excluded from specific OSHA workplace SDS obligations depends on its regulatory context; a marketplace or logistics partner may still request product safety documentation.
Which perfume SKUs require attention?
| Finished perfume format | What makes the SDS review different |
|---|---|
| Eau de parfum (EDP) | Higher or different fragrance load, alcohol and final blend composition; the label’s volume and formula revision should be traceable. |
| Eau de toilette (EDT) | Not assumed identical to EDP; dilution can affect hazards and physical properties. |
| Alcohol-free perfume oil | Carrier oils, fragrance constituents, skin sensitization and transport evaluation differ from hydroalcoholic products. |
| Travel spray or discovery set | Each distinct liquid and spray package must be identified; one multi-SKU listing does not automatically justify a single SDS. |
| Solid perfume | Wax/oil matrix and physical form differ from bottled liquids; do not duplicate the spray SDS. |
If 30 mL, 50 mL and 100 mL bottles contain the same verified formulation, their package sizes can be recorded together where appropriate. A new scent, different fragrance loading or changed carrier merits a documented comparison, even if the packaging looks identical.
How flammability and health hazards are checked
Start with the finished-product composition and reliable flash-point information. Ethanol may make flammability relevant, but the final classification must use applicable methods and product evidence; never copy a raw-material flash point into Section 9 as though the finished perfume were tested.
The mixture review may also consider skin irritation, sensitization, serious eye damage/irritation and aspiration hazards, depending on the ingredients and available evidence. Supplier SDSs, credible constituent data and applicable mixture rules inform the assessment. An IFRA conformity document has a different purpose and is not an SDS substitute.
Where the finished flash point or other critical values are unknown, label that as a data gap for assessment rather than inventing a test result or promising “non-hazardous” classification.
Information to send for perfume SDS authoring
- Finished product name, brand, formulation code and intended US supplier/importer details
- Complete composition with percentage basis, including ethanol, water, fragrance, diluents and additives
- Supplier SDSs and relevant IFRA information for the actual fragrance material
- Available finished-product flash point, density and other reliable test results
- Exact packaging: spray, roller, bulk refill, pump or aerosol, plus volumes
- All variations to be sold on Amazon, TikTok Shop, retail or through distributors
If a fragrance supplier protects the recipe as confidential, request whatever composition and hazard information can legitimately support mixture classification and applicable Section 3 disclosure; do not treat “proprietary” as permission to omit hazard evaluation.
Amazon FBA and TikTok Shop perfume documentation
Amazon may request an SDS to evaluate dangerous-goods status. Match the product and brand names on the SDS to the actual listing, check the date and verify consistency among hazards, physical properties and transport information. A submission does not guarantee FBA eligibility.
TikTok Shop US guidance emphasizes the exact finished product, formulation, SKU and packaging and warns against uploading a generic or similar-product SDS. Perfume sprays and alcohol-containing products can trigger additional document scrutiny.
Follow the Amazon FBA SDS requirements and TikTok Shop SDS requirements before preparing your product documentation.
When can perfume variants share supporting documentation?
A scent family, an unchanged bottle label or an identical alcohol percentage is not enough by itself. Build a variation matrix listing fragrance codes, carrier, formula percentage and available hazard evidence. Decide SDS coverage from that review, and submit records for each SKU or variation as the marketplace requests.
For the upstream blend instead, consult the US fragrance SDS guide. For a different finished spray application, see room spray SDS.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use my fragrance oil supplier’s SDS for my finished perfume?
Usually not without evaluating the finished blend. The supplier document supports the review of the fragrance ingredient, while the product you sell includes its carrier and other constituents.
Do EDP and EDT versions need different SDSs?
They need a formula-specific comparison because fragrance percentages and carrier composition can differ. Whether documents can be grouped depends on the actual hazard evaluation and recipient requirements.
Does every perfume have the same UN number?
No. Transport descriptions depend on the finished product, formulation, packaging and applicable modal transport rules. Do not assign a UN number from the word perfume alone.
Will an SDS automatically get my perfume approved on Amazon or TikTok?
No. Each platform independently reviews documents, product information and category or shipping eligibility.

Before requesting perfume authoring
Identify each scent and formula version, distinguish alcohol-based and oil-based products, and list the supplier records you hold. State the number of finished formulations rather than only the number of bottle sizes.
Your brief should include the intended market, requesting party and deadline. Keep confidential composition out of the public form; agree the appropriate transfer method during follow-up.
Standard Professional Authoring is flat USD $120 per defined product, with 24–48-hour delivery after complete technical information and scope confirmation. Confirm separately scoped work before ordering.
