An SDS is not prepared from the product name alone. The official OSHA Safety Data Sheet requirements call for product identification, recommended use, supplier information, hazard classification, ingredient details, handling guidance and relevant physical properties. The preparer therefore needs enough product-specific evidence to complete those sections consistently.
For example, “floor cleaner” does not reveal whether the product is neutral, strongly alkaline, acidic, chlorine-based or solvent-containing. Likewise, “battery” does not identify its chemistry, configuration or transport evidence. The exact formulation and supplied form determine which data are relevant.

What information is needed for an MSDS/SDS?
The following information is required in most cases. It may be provided through a form, formulation sheet, technical record or a combination of documents.
