FSSAI covers what's inside the capsule. This covers how the raw material behaves in transit and storage — two documents, two audiences.

What actually changes inside this category

Two products can share a shelf and still need very different documents. Here's what drives that inside Food Supplements.

Compliance

FSSAI and an SDS answer different questions.

FSSAI governs food safety, labelling and licensing for sale in India. An SDS communicates how the material should be handled, stored and transported — one doesn’t produce the other.

Scope

Concentrated raw materials need it most.

Couriers and overseas buyers most often request this for concentrated flavour or additive inputs — not the finished capsule or tablet a consumer buys.

FAQ

Questions specific to this category

An FSSAI licence and an MSDS/SDS cover different things — FSSAI is about food safety and legal sale in India, while an SDS is a hazard-communication document some couriers, marketplaces or overseas buyers request independently for shipping and handling. Having one doesn't automatically satisfy the other.

Concentrated raw materials used to manufacture supplements — flavour compounds, certain additives — can carry handling-relevant properties (flammability of a carrier solvent, dust hazards in powders) that a finished, diluted consumer product doesn't show in the same way. Export and marketplace channels often request the document regardless of the finished product's own risk profile.
