Ethanol MSDS Certificate

An Ethanol MSDS Certificate must identify the actual grade and composition. Absolute ethanol, 95% ethanol, denatured alcohol, laboratory reagent, industrial solvent and water-rich solution cannot be documented from the word ethanol alone. Purity, denaturants and reliable flash-point data affect the SDS.

Quick answer

An ethanol SDS communicates hazards for a defined ethanol product or solution. It should state the grade, ethanol percentage, water content, denaturants or additives, intended use and physical properties. It is not a generic certificate for every alcohol-containing product.

What is an Ethanol MSDS Certificate?

It is the common commercial term for a Safety Data Sheet prepared for a defined ethanol substance or solution. The document follows the OSHA Safety Data Sheet format where applicable and links back to the broader MSDS Certificate in India guide.

Why must the ethanol grade be confirmed?

ProductWhat changes
Absolute or anhydrous ethanolHigh ethanol concentration, low water content and strong flammability profile.
95–96% ethanolWater content and grade specifications must be stated accurately.
Denatured alcoholDenaturants and their concentrations may change health and transport information.
Laboratory or pharmaceutical gradePurity specification and intended use must match the marketed product.
Diluted ethanol solutionConcentration and measured physical properties determine the final assessment.

What information is required?

  • Ethanol percentage and water content.
  • Identity and concentration of every denaturant or additive.
  • CAS numbers and supplier SDS files.
  • Reliable flash point, boiling point, density and appearance.
  • Grade, intended use and restrictions.
  • Package type, size and supplier identity.
  • Existing test or transport information where available.

What official data is relevant to ethanol?

The NIOSH Pocket Guide entry for ethyl alcohol lists ethanol as a clear, colourless liquid, provides workplace exposure information and identifies a low flash point for the pure substance. A diluted or denatured commercial product must still be assessed from its own composition and reliable physical data.

The SDS may cover flammable vapours, eye irritation, inhalation or ingestion exposure, static ignition, incompatible oxidisers and fire response. It should not copy pure-ethanol values into a different solution without evidence.

When may UN 1170 apply?

The PHMSA Emergency Response Guidebook lists ethanol under UN 1170. However, the correct transport description and packing group for a commercial solution depend on concentration, flash point, composition, package and the governing transport rules.

An SDS does not replace shipment classification. Use the DG/Non-DG Classification service when a separate transport decision is needed.

Can the ethanol SDS be used for sanitizer, perfume or cleaner?

No. Once ethanol is incorporated into a finished product, the other ingredients and final physical properties must be considered. Use the separate Sanitizer MSDS, Perfume MSDS or Cleaning Product MSDS guide.

What should the ethanol SDS contain?

SectionsEthanol-specific focus
1–3Grade, concentration, denaturants, use and hazards.
4–6Exposure response, alcohol fire response and spill control.
7–8Ignition control, grounding, ventilation and PPE.
9–11Flash point, vapour properties, stability and toxicology.
12–15Environmental, disposal, transport and regulatory information.

How much does Ethanol MSDS Certificate cost?

Pricing for Ethanol SDS preparation is based on the number of distinct formulations submitted. A change in chemistry, concentration, package form or supplied component may require a separate document.

RequirementPrice
1 certificate₹3,999
2 certificates₹6,999
3 or more certificatesNegotiable

A Ethanol SDS is usually delivered within 24–48 hours after complete details and payment. Testing, translation, registration, UN 38.3 work and separate transport documents remain outside this price unless specifically included.

Which common ethanol SDS mistakes should you avoid?

  • Leaving denaturants out of the composition.
  • Using pure-ethanol data for a diluted formulation.
  • Assigning UN 1170 without reviewing the finished solution.
  • Using an ethanol raw-material SDS for sanitizer or perfume.
  • Guessing flash point from alcohol percentage alone.
  • Calling every alcohol product food, pharmaceutical or laboratory grade.

Which official references support this guide?

These references support the general SDS structure and the product-specific points cited above. The finished document must still be based on the actual formulation, physical data and intended market.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not automatically. Denaturants can change composition, toxicity, odour and transport information.

No. The actual composition, flash point, concentration and applicable transport provisions must be reviewed.

No. A finished sanitizer contains other ingredients and needs its own formulation-specific review.

Not always. Reliable supplier and technical data may be sufficient, but missing critical properties may require testing.

One certificate costs ₹3,999, two cost ₹6,999, and three or more are negotiable.
