What product is the page covering?

Why the SDS must agree with the product label?

The EPA policy on SDS information accompanying pesticide products explains that an SDS may accompany a pesticide product only when its information is consistent with applicable pesticide labelling requirements. In practical terms, hazard wording, first aid and use descriptions should not contradict the approved or supplied label.

The EPA disinfectant registration guidance also shows why efficacy claims are separate from hazard communication. An SDS does not prove that a product is effective against a named organism.

What hazards should be reviewed?

The assessment may involve corrosivity, eye damage, skin irritation, acute toxicity, flammability, oxidising behaviour, inhalation exposure or environmental hazards. Which of these appears depends on the actual concentration and mixture data. For example, a diluted neutral quat product should not inherit every hazard statement from a concentrated raw material without applying the relevant mixture-classification rules.

What should the disinfectant SDS contain?

The OSHA 16-section SDS format provides the standard sequence for product identification, hazards, composition, response, handling and related information.
