The word “sanitizer” is used for products with different intended uses. A leave-on hand rub, alcohol hand gel, surface sanitizing spray and disinfectant concentrate should not share one generic SDS. Intended use affects exposure assumptions, supporting documents and the product claims that must remain outside the SDS.

Why can't Alcohol identity and quality data be guessed?
The NIOSH Pocket Guide entry for ethanol and the NIOSH Pocket Guide entry for isopropyl alcohol show that these are distinct substances with their own exposure and physical-property information. A sanitizer SDS must identify which alcohol is present and at what concentration.
The FDA guidance on testing alcohol for methanol contamination addresses a quality and safety concern for alcohol used in drug products, including hand sanitizers. An SDS should not invent a purity result; supporting quality data must come from the manufacturer or testing record.
Why is An SDS different from an efficacy certificate?
An SDS communicates hazards, handling, first aid, storage and other safety information. It does not prove microbial kill claims, product approval or compliance with every market’s sanitizer rules. The FDA hand-sanitizer safety guidance discusses flammability, ingestion and safe use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers; it is not a substitute for product-specific efficacy or registration evidence.

Does every hand sanitizer use the same shipping description?
